so today i went down to Hamilton's here in Logan (the nicest restaurant here in town) and i really really doubt i got the job. it was me and at least 15 other people. and i don't think i fit there mold of a person. but the guy interviewing me kept saying things like, well that's good insight. or that's a great answer. and so on. but apparently they are already fully staffed for the summer but someone could quit tomorrow type thing, so they are interviewing people to replace them. so it could take a day or a month or never (if they never call). ha. but on june 4th i'm gunna call back and talk to them to follow up. it seems like a great place to work. i remember really liking waitressing, the fast pace of it, the close friends you make out of it. and all the random types of people that work there. so i'm hoping i can do that. cause that would be do-able with my school schedule.
but the most important news....
so on Monday it was an amazing day (see previous 99 red balloons post). and i've been emailing this boss-man in Louisiana since last march about a possible freelance position. and i really haven't talked to him for a couple of weeks or a month. so i was happily delighted when i got an "update" email from him regarding his 3 projects. he's got on in the Bahamas (ha, he asked if i had experience in the Bahamas, i told him no, but i'm thinking that would be amazing site visits!!!), one in Louisiana, and one in Houston. they all sound like great/exciting projects to work on. he does amazing work and i would be honored to work with him. now that my blog is public i can't say his name or firm, so if your itching to look them up, just email or text me and i'll tell ya. anyway after i got the "update" email from him i responded with, that's great, also i dropped the bomb that i went back to school. explained that i still wanted to work with him but probably would not be able to work a full 40 hour work week. but could make up the loss time on the weekends.
well normally his email responses are within minutes or an hour at the latest. well...... i didn't hear anything back from him for the entire day! oh my gosh i was freaking out, and really really bumming out. but first thing the next morning he send me a rather brash email of; well "how many hours of school do you do during the week? how many can you put to a project? let me know and i'll think about this" crap! i was freaking out. and my heart was sinking, thinking, man i've just completely lost this opportunity. awesome. but i responded (hopefully professionally) stating that i've got 30 hrs a week for school during summer term, i can work on the weekends to make up the lost time, and due to the economy this was the best route. and at the end i explained that since your working with high end clients and they would expect a high turn over, i would understand if this doesn't work out (heart sinking). but hopefully it will.
well he finally responses... a few hours later with: "thanks. i'll let you know when the projects begin and i'm sure we can work something out!"
helllllooooo happy, happy day! sigh of relief! so i'm still banking that this thing will work out. these stupid clients just need to get on the ball and make some decisions. ha. but i'm so happy he's okay with me being in school. and keep in mind i'll be working with this guy for at least a year. i'm hoping longer so mabye i wont be in that much debt for grad school.
cause these crap jobs i'm looking for now, well, they are just that: crap jobs. but i really don't want to be diminishing all my savings like i did in slc. cause yeah, even if it was only a little bit of money i should have gotten a crap job for 5 months. oh well. i've learned my lesson.
