yup... that's where i had my job interview on wedneday. check out the portfolio, they do nice stuff. ha. but anyway, it was a good experiance. eeesh, but it took 1 hour and 40 mins to get there. so that wasn't fun. but i did it for 6 months when i was reverse commuting to greenwhich. you get used to the train, and i always just zoned out and slept. ha, i remember one time i was on my way back into the city after a long work day and it was before i started going all the way down to grand central, i was getting off at the 125 harlem stop. well, of course i fall alseep on the train. and normally i'm kinda half awake, so i can kinda gague/hear the train announcements. which side not even if you are wide awake sometimes it's really difficult to understand what they are saying. they should learn to annunciate. ha. oh well. anyway so i was out, and i woke when the doors opened and i freaked out thinking this is my stop... i ran out the door realized, nope! this is fordam (the bronx) and was dumb founded on the platform for a second cause i was so out of it, realized my mistake and just barley got back on the train before it closed the doors. okay lame story, but i thought it was funny at the time. so anyway... yeah i can do the commute again. just gotta get used to it.
but anyway the location of the office couldn't be better! it's on park ave south between 29th/30th. right by madison square park, tons of sandwhich shops (which is great for lunch. cause when i was working in the fashion district, south midtown, there was nothing. it was kinda frustrating. ha) anyway... love the area. just right of the 6 train. and the office itself had a very homey feel. i felt as if i stepped into someones living room. so that was nice.
but i first sat with the partner liz. i swear she looked so young. around my age, like 32 or something. geesh, that's depressing.. haha, she's so young and is already a partner! anyway we sat, she looked over my portfolio, told me, "i'm gunna be honest, i'm impressed with your work". so that's good. she told me about their amazing work hours. cause yes, when i was at jbma i hated the work/life/mentality that it was okay to stay until 2am to get things done. it was normal. hahaha, um, not so much a fan of that lifestyle. anyway, she explained they only work 9-5, wait... 9-5. that's not even a full 8 hour day! ha. they include lunch. and they do summer hours! oh my dream come true!! i've alway been so envious of friends who had that. for those of you that don't know that you work normal days 4 days a week then on friday you leave at noon. and this goes from memorial day to labor day. hello! wonderful!! and so i was hooked. well, actually this is what really made me want the job... so she told me that yeah she's been interviewing a ton of people and has been bombarded with resumes. so the possibility that i might not get the job.. well that is what makes me really want it. always want what i can't have. story of my life.
but i actually sent out my resume and some portfolio samples back on june 1 when i was in panic mode and applying to north dakota. yeah, i applied everywhere. so they have kept on to my resume for almost 4 months, and they contacted me. so you know they are a little intrigued. anyway so after we sat i got a tour of the office, got to see some of there drawings/projects. it was impressive, i'm not gunna lie. but it's the same stuff i've been doing since day 1, so it would be an easy transition. so after i got the tour peter, the boss, came and sat for a second. he looked through my stuff and was impressed as well. he actually said that he admired my old firms work and was impressed that i worked there. and was saying that he felt i would be able to appreciate the type of work they did. which is true, cause i do the same stuff and can't think any way to not make it as well. my brain just doesn't function on that level. ha. but then he introduced me to the lead designer. greg someone. this guy is impressive. he's published many many books and has this amazing rare old architectural book collection from the 1800's filled with french details. my mouth was drooling a little when i saw them, i'm not gunna lie.
but that's it. i think it went over well. the interview lasted for a little over an hour. and thinking back to past interviews when i didn't get the job (or job offer) they usually only lasted about 20 mins. cause really, why waste anyones time if your not interested you know? but i was a little weirded out cause we didn't talk salary. but possibly they'll be sending me an offer on monday. cause when i got home wednesday night i sent out a curdiousy email to both peter and liz, just saying thanks for meeting with me, it was nice to meet you ... blah blah blah. and peter responded with will be contact you on monday. sweet!!!!!!!!!!!
this is just all so funny cause on the train going into the city i kept saying in my head... this is so pointless for me to be going in. i'm just wasting everyones time. i don't want to be in nyc. i'm done with nyc. i don't want to be working right now. haha. this is so pointless... and on and on and on. and just the fact that i have competition.... and i might not get it.... totally want it! and yeah, when i saw there stuff (projects) and talking about work i realized i missed it. i missed being in that environment. yeah the office was really quiet, which is normal, but seemed pretty laid back. saw some guys in jeans and it wasn't a friday. ha. i'm just in love with the hours. cause that would be amazing since i'll be commuting from ct til new years.
so that's it. that's been my life this week. oh wait, no, i met up with a friend afterwards and just being in the city. and it wasn't so crowded cause the summer is gone and the tourists have left. it felt kinda deserted. which i loved!!!! cause i am not a fan of crowds i'm realizing. actually hate it. i could do it. it would be a challange but i'm tough, i can do it.
and tomorrow i'm going to go hiking up in hamdem area/new haven area with some friends. so excited!! i love hiking. gotta get it all in!! haha.
