NVCG

New Venture Consulting Group.

yea... so here's the story...

so back in june i decided i needed to get into business clubs at usu pronto. so i joined whatever i could. i came across this one group through the business school called "new venture consulting group" and it looked really professional, and it didn't seem like a club. and i had to submit a resume...what??? i did anyway. knowing there's no way i'll get in, i've got no finance experience. none. so that was what, 3 months ago. and i can't remember things that happen yesterday.

well i get an email about two weeks ago saying, "we've gotten a lot of responses and we are going through the applications and you'll hear back from us shortly. signed nvcg." i thought it was spam at first (cause i had completely forgotten what i did 3 months ago) but then i saw a usu email. so i knew it was from school. well a few days later i get another email telling me that they want to interview me.

what?? since when do people interview to get into school sponsored clubs. where's the walk-on policy? haha. i thought it was all really strange but i went anyway. so i went down there with utter confusion and no expectations cause i was still unclear what they wanted me to do. their website isn't very thorough. but after the meeting, i wanted in so badly! they explained to me that last year they saw over 100 business plans, met with top exec's (which is great for networking) and they looked at some amazing projects! i was getting crazy excited. i had a permi-grin on my face for the rest of the day.

well the next monday rolled around and i got another email.... I GOT IN! wow, i was shocked, convinced it was a fluke. but i'll take it! haha. so i go to the first official meeting and at first our club was combined with the entrepreneur club then we branched off (i'll mention later why i put that fact in). so we go have our meeting... and they tell us around 100 people applied and we took you 8 people!!! oh, my, gosh! seriously? oh, and did i mention, i'm the only girl (out of the 100 applicants for the 8 vacant spots). i mean, seriously?? what??!! wow, i had no idea what this club was a few months ago and i had no idea it was elite! haha.

well after our meeting i was waiting in the lobby to get my picture taken for the website/bio's and this guy comes up to me who was in the entrepreneur club and starts asking how i got in, and i just felt so bad. cause my response (yes really) was: oh, honestly, i have no idea. i just sent in my resume, did the interview, and i got it. i really have no idea what i'm doing." hahaha. but i felt bad cause from his talking/mannerisms it seemed as if he applied and didn't get in. oh well. his loss. ha.

but this thing is not a club. it's a group, and more like a job. i'm spending 10 hours a week on it, and training has begun. it's amazing! and in a few weeks we're meeting with some hot-shot. i can't remember his name, but he worked in zions bank the investing side, and went to oxford. and worked at a venture capital firm in salt lake (had no idea those where in salt lake). so yea. it's amazing. oh, and funny, on the interviewing panel (there were 3 people) one of the guys on the panel i knew cause i just went to new york with him! he was in the networking/finance trip i went on. love it, love it.

i'm still in shock that they picked me. i really have no idea why. but i'm not complaining! it's great. but i'm breaking all the odds here. i went to new york (when the deadline was 1/2 a year before) i got into this group, so... maybe i will land a big bank internship. cause on this streak, i will! haha.
